Abstract In this paper, information entropy was proposed to measure water quality reliability in a distribution system (WDS), which had been applied evaluate hydraulic the WDS. evaluation, residual chlorine is representative of quality, and first-order decay model usually adopted. The (R) based on (WQE) improved (Rd) (IWQE) were compared for three networks. method developed EPANET toolkit MATLAB environment. results indicated that flow (FE) strongly related WQE, (IFE) also IWQE. addition, Rd can reflect effect pipe velocity, whereas R only effects WDS layout. novelty paper develop with consideration velocity liability as surrogate index, reduce calculation load be nonlinear system. evaluation help design, analyze, improve
